Set Google Maps to Avoid Highways on Mobile
To start, on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, launch the Google Maps app.
In Maps, find directions for your destination. When the directions appear, in the app’s top-right corner, tap the three dots.
In the menu that opens, tap “Route Options.”
A “Driving Options” box will open. Here, to avoid highways on your route, enable the “Avoid Highways” option. You can also avoid tolls and ferries by enabling appropriate options in this box.
Then tap “Done.”
Maps will update your directions to exclude highways from your route.
And off you go!
